Grand Hotel Due Golfi

A four story hotel with trees next to it.

Sorrento sits on the northern side of the famous Amalfi Coast. The Grand Hotel Due Golfi sits above the city of Sorrento.

In this photo you can see the front of the hotel on the left, the city of Sorrento down below, with Mount Vesuvius and Naples in the distance.

Hotel Due Golfi Airport Shuttle Service

The driver from the hotel picked us up from the airport. We paid for the shuttle service from the Hotel Due Golfi when we made our reservations. He was super friendly and spoke pretty good english.

While he drove he shared things about what we drove by including the lemon trees that lined the road. It was here we learned so much about the lemons. What they did with all those lemons and why they were covered with sheets of mesh. He taught us many things that I didn’t find on the internet. He was fantastic!

First Impressions

My first impression of seeing the hotel in person was elegant but simple. The location is what makes this a hotel to stay at. Everything seemed in its place.

We were greeted by two receptionists at the desk. They were both as friendly and welcoming as our driver.

We found our room clean and simple with a large king size bed, a desk, and bathroom with a balcony. The balcony had a small round table and two chairs. It was the view from the balcony that was AMAZING!

Here is the view from the balcony. You can see the chairs and umbrellas around the infinity pool. The city below is Sorrento with Naples and Mount Vesuvius in the distance.

An infinity pool looking out beyond the green shrubbery to a town and the Mediterranean sea.

The best part of our stay

Hands down, the receptionists at the Hotel Due Golfi are the best we have ever experienced. Let me explain how superior they are to other places we have stayed.

Path of the Gods

In my research, I learned about an incredible hike called Path of the Gods. This is one of the most beautiful hikes in the world. You can read all about this hike on the site: Earth Trekkers

As my husband and I love to hike, I researched the logistics of taking this hike. To go on this hike from Sorrento I would have to take a network of buses. I gathered all the information I could find and was hesitantly ready to go.

Back to the receptionists. We were talking to them about the hike we wanted to go on and the transportation we would need to take. They responded back, “Well we have a connection with a guy who can take you on that hike. He will pick you up here and bring you back.” Quite excited at this much better option I asked, “How much does it cost?” “It is 55 euros a person,” she responded. This sounded amazing We accepted the private tour right away. Stunned, we walked away quite happy. We had just avoided ALL of the shuttles, over crowded buses and the waiting.

Renting a scooter

My husband owns a scooter. He is an experienced driver. Many sites I looked at warned that renting a scooter in Italy was a bad idea.

My husband had thought about renting a scooter back in the States. After our hike he decided to rent a scooter.

Our receptionists helped my husband get his scooter. They sent him to the rental place.

We used this scooter for two days. The first day we went down to the beach and the second day we drove to Positano, Amalfi and Ravello on one of the most dangerous roads in the world, the Amalfi Coast Road. This road has mirrors with many switchbacks. All sizes of vehicles are on this road. When there is a traffic jam, scooters are allowed to ride the line and move ahead. This was my most favorite part of the trip.

Capri

Another famous spot I wanted to see was the Blue Grotto and Capri. In researching, I knew I would have to take a shuttle down to Sorrento (This is free from the hotel), wait in line to get on the boat, wait in another line in Capri to see the Blue Grotto.

We were discussing our next day with our receptionists. They said, “I know a guy that takes groups over to Capri. He will pick you up here and bring you back. On the boat there will be 8 other people. He will serve you a sandwich and some limoncello. Not only can you jump in the water and swim but you will see the green grotto as well.” I was so excited to hear this. I asked, “How much?” “70 euro per person,” was her response. That was an easy yes.

The trip was packed with many great things to see and do and we were back in time for dinner.

Dinner

My husband asked our receptionists for a dinner choice one evening. They suggested Le Grottelle that was just down the road a little. We loved it so much, we went two days in a row. We really felt like we were one of the locals.

The Hotel

The receptionists are five star quality! The hotel isn’t too far behind. Here are some more photos from the hotel grounds.

A covered porch near the pool is the Ristorante Il Vespero. You can order food and drinks here anytime.
A wood framed structure as a covering for a porch with lamps and chairs. Umbrellas are ar in the back ground next to a pool.
The dining room. We had a very nice multi-coursed meal one evening.
Round table with white table cloths surround by brown chairs, On the windows looking out at the sea are striped curtains.
We had breakfast every morning. It was fantastic!
Food on platters arranged on a table.

If you happen to be planning a vacation to Sorrento, do consider this hotel. You will not be disappointed! We weren’t!!
