What to pack for Acadia National Park in June
Knowing what to pack for this popular park in June is important! We went in early June and the weather was perfect for layering. This park gets over one million visitors starting in late June. Going in early June, we avoid the heavy crowds on the trails and the roads.

Here is what we packed for our trip:
Clothes
The amount is determined on how long you are staying and if you plan on doing laundry on your trip.
- Underwear
- Socks (Wool mix socks are best for hiking and the cooler weather)-My favorite are the Darn Tough ones. They have a lifetime guarantee.
- Pajamas
- Long sleeve shirts (Dry-fit or merino wool blend/cashmere tops are perfect to keep your temperature regulated) These merino wool shirts have many options and colors.
- Pants (Hiking pants, Convertible hiking pants, leggings, joggers)
- Layering piece (Hoodie, 1/4 zip, sweat jacket, fleece that can be tied around your waist as your temperature rises while hiking)
- Winter coat and hat (If you plan on going to Cadillac Mountain to see the sun rise. It’s windy and cold!)
- Baseball cap (If you like them or if you want to keep the sun out of your eyes.)
- Hiking shoes (You don’t need hiking boots but if you have them, you might want to bring them. Make sure the grip on your toes is very good. Most hikes at the top of the mountains are granite which gets very slippery when it is wet.) I like waterproof ones like these.
- Rain coat/gear (These should be able to fold down and placed into each small backpack. Just something to keep you dry until you can get back to your car. You never know when it’s going to rain in the mountains so it’s best to be prepared.)
Hiking
- Water bottle (One that can keep your hands free)
- Small back pack (One to hold your water bottle and the other things you want on your hike. Draw string back packs can dig into your shoulder on a long hike. Everyone should have a small back pack. This helps to divided the weight.) Here is a small pack I had for years and is perfect size for kids. My husband loves this Teton Sport one and takes it on all of his hikes. I take my Osprey day pack.
- Bug spray (We encountered bugs on our hike near the South Bubble. It’s ALWAYS a good idea to carry a small bottle of bug spray.)
- Sun screen (Make sure you have a small bottle/tube when the sun comes out.)
- Hiking poles (I use these on every hike. They are so nice to use when I need to take a big step up and to help in the decent of the mountain.
- Sun glasses
Toiletries
- Tooth brush, Tooth paste, floss, mouth wash
- Brush, comb, hair bands, head bands, hair clips
- Hair Dryer (If the place you are stying doesn’t have one and you need one.)
- Shampoo, conditioner
- Hair stying needs (Creams, moose, texturizing cream)
- Soaps (body and face)
- Moisturizers (body and face)
- Q-tips (If you need to clean out your ears)
- Nail kit (Emery board and nail clippers)
First Aide Kit
This is to be placed in a small bag that goes in a small backpack for hiking.
- Tweezers (For the possible splinters)
- Band aides (Of various sizes-don’t forget blister bandages for those who decide not to wear wool blend socks or break in their new hiking shoes.)
- You can pack these things in case someone gets a serious cut if you want. We have never had to use them on a hike.
There you go! A complete list of what to bring! Do check the weather before you go on your trip. Knowing the daily temperatures a couple weeks before you go as well, will help you have a better idea of the laying items you want to pack.
We LOVED going in early June! There were times we were the only people on the trails.
Pack well so you can hike well so you can a great time and make great memories. This park is the favorite one we have visited so far. It is beautiful and there is a lot to do!
